Why Recycle??

  • An average PC is typically 39% steel, 30-41% plastic, 10% aluminum and 10% other metals, including copper, gold, silver, cadmium, and platinum.
  • Only 11% of PCs retired in the United States were recycled in 2001.
  • Every 4 months, Americans landfill enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet.
Everyday, one PC becomes obsolete for every PC that is placed on the market for sale. When you consider that millions of desktop PCs are sold each year, the number that end up in landfills is stunning. It's been estimated that as many as two-thirds of all computers ever manufactured still await some type of disposal.
PCs present a special challenge because their hardware is toxic. A standard monitor along can come packed with up to 9 pounds of lead and other heavy metals. Some of the other murderous elements include nickel-cadmium and mercury. All of these are treated as poison by the human body. If ingested, they can cause all manner of health problems, including central nervous system damage. Lead, for example, has no way to leave the human body once it finds it way into it. So an affected person forever must live with the toxin, forever.

Recycle your PC!!!!
